"Pagine Pompeiane"(Pompeian Diaries)

For the cast resin and paper works in the “Pagine Pompeiane” (Pompeian Diaries) series,
I started with collaging duotone photographs from an Alinari Brothers tour guide to the ruins of Pompei. I then interwove into these images a series of black/white figurative marks. Finally, I superimposed a series of abstract laser cut shapes. Each of these sets of superimposed marks references both specific childhood memories and drawings from the earlier Modernist period. The specific childhood memories were culled from photographs taken of the houses I lived in as a very young child. These drawing homages are taken from 1930-40’s Surrealism.
