Vestiges / Vestigia
August 23 to October 4, 2024
Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station, Glendale CA
An installation by Jonna Lee and John David O’Brien
Our installation project obliquely divides the space of the Gas Station with a semi-transparent wall with each of us working on opposite sides of this in order to make two complementary and interconnected art projects. Both sides of the space are occupied by light, sculptures and the membrane that divides the space which is a wooden frame housing a mesh allowing views of both sides simultaneously.
The most prominent feature on both sides of this division to be a chest of drawers or dresser. Both have been modified and inhabited with artifacts that allude directly to personal identity but also lean into abstraction as studies of form and color. The result is to propose to the passersby an enigmatic glance into a shared room that has both macro and micro scopic details to capture their imagination. It is our desire that this work references our collaborative effort’s both in organizing other artists work in exhibitions and our individual efforts in the studio.
